Research Area

Integrated Multilevel Circulation Model (IMCM), Morphologically evolving process of urban core, transforming process of Korean architectural space concept

Abstract

This centre's research area is three-folds: based on the theoretical and empirical findings of Space Syntax, firstly, more refined development of a 'global' method for a highly complex heterogeneous systems of multi-use and multi-functional urban complexes than the 'Integrated Multilevel Circulation Model (IMCM)' (figure1); secondly, with the incorporation of traditional space syntax methodologies, exploring and understanding the underlying morphological forms and functions of urban cores in many historically developed cities in Korea (figure2); finally, research into the evolution of architectural space mainly focusing on the role of cultural and social differences through time in the evolving concept of Korean architectural space (figure3).
